I have been a storm chasers for many years. I have seen what tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards have done to communities. We need to protect our constituents from monopoly-insurance companies.
When a person purchases homeowners or flood insurance, they expect to be covered in a natural disaster. Unfortunately, that isn’t always the case. While visiting Emeralds Isle, I learned that many residents had their insurance premiums double and that was not including flood insurance.
I will push for insurance premiums to be capped, meaning that they won’t be changing significantly without warning. Under no circumstances should there be a time where a policy is nearly double within a year.
As your congressman, i will require affordable flood insurance for everyone, especially for our coastal constituents. I will also require the insurance companies to conduct instant repairs and rebuild of destroyed homes. After a disaster happens, it could take weeks, months, or years for insurance to payout for your home to be fixed or replaced. There are North Carolina residents who were impacted by Hurricane Helene who are still living in tents unfortunately.
I will also work with local emergency management officials to move equipment and supplies to the projected heavy-hitting areas of storm systems so if something occurs, we have the resources there and ready.
